| In Asser Hospital there are 1- X-ray 2-Computed Tomography (CT) 3-Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) 4-Nuclear Medicine 5-Ultrasound
*X-RAY… X-rays are a form of radiation like light or radio waves. X-rays pass through most objects, including the body. An x-ray machine produces a small burst of radiation that passes through the body Different parts of the body absorb the x-rays in varying degrees. Dense bone absorbs much of the radiation while soft tissue, such as muscle, fat and organs, allow more of the x-rays to pass through them. As a result, bones appear white on the x-ray, soft tissue shows up in shades of gray and air appears black. When a contrast material is introduced to the bloodstream during the procedure, it clearly defines the blood vessels being examined by making them appear bright white. You should inform your physician of any medications you are taking and if you have any allergies, especially to contrast material. Also inform your doctor about recent illnesses or other medical conditions There are 2 exams 1-ruten x-ray (for bone) 2-spicalle x-ray (that need contrast) ** CT scan …CT scanning, numerous x-ray beams rotate around you body, CT angiography is used to examine blood vessels in key areas of the body & soft tissue
Most CT scans take no longer than 30 minutes. During the exam, the technologist monitors the patient through a leaded window and can answer the patient’s questions via an intercom.
*** Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)… A great advantage of MRI is that the patient is not exposed to x-rays. The images are created with the use of strong magnetic fields, radiofrequency transducers and computer assisted image processing.
MRI is use for examine soft tissue the operator can also generate flow images within vessels, the so-called magnetic resonance angiogram (MRA).
The radiologist should also know if you have any serious health problems and what surgeries you have undergone. Some conditions, such as kidney disease and sickle cell anemia, may prevent you from having an MRI with contrast material. Metal objects must remove. Because they can interfere with the magnetic field of the MRI unit, metal and electronic objects are not allowed in the exam room.
****Nuclear Medicine … Nuclear medicine is a subspecialty within the field of radiology that uses very small amounts of radioactive material to diagnose or treat disease and other abnormalities within the body. Nuclear medicine imaging procedures are noninvasive and usually painless medical tests that help physicians diagnose medical conditions. These imaging scans use radioactive materials called a radiopharmaceutical or radiotracer. Physicians use nuclear imaging to visualize the structure and function of an organ, tissue, bone or system of the body. This radioactive material accumulates in the organ or area of your body being examined, where it gives off a small amount of energy in the form of gamma rays. A gamma camera, PET scanner, or probe detect this energy and with the help of a computer create pictures offering details on both the structure and function of organs and other parts of your body.
*****Ultrasound … A quick and painless exam can be performed without ionizing radiation
It is use in soft tissue exam except the stomach, we can't use in children except in hip bone dislocation دعـــــــــــواتكم | |
